Funding Options

If you require hearing aids you may be eligible for either partial or full funding. Outlined below are a number of funding types, their eligibility criteria and what is covered.

ACC

ACC Funding is available for anyone who has lost their hearing through:

  • Long term exposure to noise through their occupation
  • Exposure to a loud-level impulse noise (eg an explosion)
  • Physical trauma to the hearing system through an accident

ACC covers the cost of the hearing aid/s, the Audiologist’s fitting fees, required accessories, maintenance and repairs, and batteries.

War Pensions

This form of funding is available to any War Pensioner who has a hearing loss that may have occurred as a result of noise exposure during their military service for New Zealand or Britain. War Pensions cover the wholesale cost of hearing aids up to $800 (excl GST), the Audiologist’s fitting fees, maintenance and repairs and a battery allowance of $0.81 per hearing aid per week.

Accessable

This form of funding is available for anyone who requires a hearing aid for one of the following reasons:

  • to obtain or maintain employment (for> 30 hours per week)
  • to be the sole caregiver of a dependent child

Accessable covers the wholesale cost of hearing aids and contributes to the Audiologist’s fitting fees. You will be required to pay fees depending on the number of hearing aids you need and their level of technology. Accessable will pay for repairs due to general wear and tear of the hearing aid but do not contribute to loss or damage of the hearing aids or battery costs.
